On this week's bulletin board: writing from the shower, stopping for wildflowers, marketing miracles and my favorite prime day finds
On Wednesdays, I share a list of things I’m seeing, liking, thinking about, etc. This is my weekly bulletin board!
+ Hello from northern Michigan! Still up here catching glimpses of the water between work calls. We are in a very busy — amazing — patch at Migrate, and I just mentioned to my dad, “I can’t tell if I’ve enjoyed my time here?” and he responded, “Well, you’ve been working non-stop.” This is true, I’ve been rolling out of bed at 6, laptop open and coffee in hand by 6:30. But as I was at my desk today, I thought of myself in every summer past. I used to spend June through August working at the ice cream shop down the street, daydreaming about marketing and content creation. I have been thinking about this all my life — and we’re doing it! I am tired, but I know I’m giving it my all. So I’m happy to be tired! So while you see a lot of pretty Instagram pictures, know that you are not alone in the hard work. I am writing this note in the shower. Embarassing — but determined to fit it in. Things are not just hard for you. Keep going!
+ Speaking of work, I would like to report a social media manager miracle. The Edits app is saving my life. You can use it to create content with Instagram sounds, download it to your camera roll (with the original sound!!!), and upload it to scheduling software. This was not possible before and required so much tedious work to ensure a video went out with the right audio. If you don’t work in marketing, this means nothing to you. Carry on! But if you create content, download the Edits app ASAP.
+ I saw a man pull over, jump out of his car, and pick a bunch of wildflowers the other day. Just so you know, there are people out there doing that. My faith is encouraged.
+ This Hill House dress is the best I’ve ever seen. I’ve been told I need it for the Coldplay concert I’m going to in a few weeks. I kind of agree! If you’re a Chris Martin fangirl like me, here’s a playlist.
+ Today, I had a call with someone I’ve never had a longer than a 30-minute Zoom conversation with. We started talking about my mom, who passed away this past November, and she asked me direct, empathetic, beautiful questions like, “What were your last moments with her like?” or “What were some of the words she left you with?” It touched me so deeply to have someone ask directly and lend me the space to answer. Oftentimes, we are so afraid to approach the intimate places in people. Before today, I never knew this would be helpful — but I am learning from a good teacher, grief. I hung up the phone and made a promise with myself to have the courage to ask direct questions. Not only the typical “How are you?” or “How are you feeling?” but … “Tell me about [blank]” or “What was [blank] like for you?” Direct, compassionate, curiosity —what a gift to another’s story.
+ I have a fake Goyard I bought a few years ago after waiting in line in Paris for literal hours, only to decide against the purchase. It looks exactly like the real thing, and I just recently resurfaced the source here.
+ On to Amazon Prime finds! Controversial, but I do love a sale. So many good deals! You can view all my picks here. These are some of my favorites:
I wear these sunglasses all the time! A pack of two for $12.
I bought my Breville last year on Prime Day and wondered if it would be worth it. I love it. It takes some study to figure out the correct ratios of beans and things, but out of it, I have developed a new hobby and greater care for my coffee. This coffee ritual has been a gateway to being more patient with taking care of myself in general. Taking time to make my coffee helps me take my time with everything else. Order!!!
My favorite socks, I’ve repurchased many times — $ 11 for six pairs.
I’ve bought this rug three times for many different spaces. Fab!
The Oura Ring is one of my favorite purchases of this year. Truly!!!! I have found it to be so, so helpful.
Hatch alarm clock is also a favorite addition to the daily routine.
This is never on sale. I'm taking it as a sign to stock up. I’ve repurchased this scrub numerous times. It is the secret to clean-feeling hair!
I am a bandwagon weighted vest user. I love it for my walks! On sale! I ordered the 16lb and I find it to be perfect.
I take this before bed. So helpful.
The Dyson is also as good as people say it is. On sale!!!
My favorite mascara ever (I will never go back to non-tubing mascara) is nearly 40% off!
I'm not sure what they put in this, but the stain treatment is magical.
Love this air purifier for my house.
Happy shopping! Happy working! Happy living!
Have a great week!
Sending love,
C

I have to tell you that I ALWAYS read your emails when they land in my inbox. I am what I would call the world’s worst lead, always deleting emails and unsubscribing from everything. Your writing reminds me of my own when I moved to Spain in college and the world cracked wide open for me. Now that my life is consumed with small children, a small business, and another part-time job—it feels like the part of my brain I used to use for long form musings has been put on hold, but I read your writing and it inspires me to wake that version of me back up! Keep going, we ARE noticing!
