SUMMER STYLE ON SALE: A few more affordable finds for summer closets! Smocked boat neck dress, perfect white shift to dress up or down, linen blend pull-on shorts, pajama set that could be worn outside the house, white eyelet maxi skirt, ideal striped sweater layer, easy crew neck dress, tortoise flip flops, or these striped pants.
INSPIRATION SOURCES: Where do you find inspiration? Especially when writing, drinking in another’s good work helps my own form. I usually need to get the juices flowing before hitting the page. I love scrolling through Pinterest and my camera roll, reading Jen’s blog, referencing a bit of The Artist’s Way, or this big book of Mary Oliver. Even if I go outside and try to notice things, it helps me. A great documentary about an inspirational person will really help. I often watch this ad by Darling magazine that I discovered in college. I’ve had it bookmarked for years. I love the last line — “it’s only a crazy dream until you do it.” Where do you go to get your gears turning?
COLORFUL HOME FINDS: This rug has been a favorite, striped lamp under $50, love this red mirror for a pop on a wall, green grid lamp, or this polka dot pillow.
GARDEN GIRL SUMMER: I came home from the airport last week and audibly screamed — oh my gosh, my sunflowers!!! They stood taller than the house. A simple seed, creating endless magic. In my garden this year, I chose to stick to flowers. I planted zinnias (a few varieties), dahlias, cosmos, and giant sunflowers. I am delighted with the results! Gardening sounds like a very complicated undertaking, but just throw your seeds in the ground and see what happens. Everything is an experiment. Nature knows what it’s doing. You can find packs of seeds at Lowe’s that work just fine! And then you can walk outside and make bouquets and think to yourself, “wow, I can’t believe God thought of this.”
ON REPEAT: I can’t get enough of Jon Bellion’s live album. Watching him perform with this much passion and presence for his craft is SO inspiring.
GOOD HAIR: My dad gets a lot of attention for his hair. I’ll give it to him — it is good. His secret? He says this Nutrafol or this Nutrafol 50+ formula every single day. A great Father’s Day gift. I can’t believe it’s already Father’s Day this Sunday … !!!
IN THE MAIL: Speaking of hair, I ordered this hair brush on the spot after my hairdresser used it on me last night. Good for dry or wet hair. My hair is always tangly, and this worked like magic.
MORE ICE CREAM, LESS BEANS: The summer of sway that I mentioned here continues. This is a big week as I prepare to leave for NYC this weekend. So much to do — pressing in on all sides! But on Monday night, I got in the car, bought myself an ice cream cone, went to the beach, and ran straight for the waves. I jumped right in, bobbing up and down with the tide, and was immediately drawn out of my cycle of anxious thoughts. Oh, the world is so much bigger than me. Here I am floating in the giant sea. We’re all in a chase for that nostalgic childhood summer feeling, but I think it’s just a search for daily wonder. More permission for delight. We can give ourselves this. I love this quote that encapsulates some of this energy —
HELPED BY THE BEST VERSION OF YOU: Throughout your day, who accompanies you? Lately, I’ve been trying to channel the best version of me. Who is she? What does she say? How does share care for me? Even conjuring this visual helps me. Another question that snaps me to clarity — If your life were a movie, what would the audience be yelling at you to do?
